To us it's a hobby, our pastime. Those men however lived through hell, "the forgotten heroes of a forgotten war".

Grasshoff, Kurt

First StaffelFührer of Jasta 37. Apparently never killed anybody.

StaffelFührer 7 November 1917 – 24 March 1918

Udet, Ernst

After the Great War he led the life of a playboy but also was a famous sports and aerobatic pilot. He was flying the Iconic silver Curtiss Hawk during the 1936 Olympics.

Acting CO of Jasta 37, lived through both World Wars.

Last commander of Jasta 37, He was credited with 24 air victories.

Bittrich, Wilhelm

In the 30s, under the influence of Göring, he joined NSDAP, and later SA, then SS in which he became a general. He was commanding the defense of Arnem which was later portrayed in “A bridge too far”, in the writing of which he took part.
